Guitar field problem?

The more I press down on the fret, the higher the note, which sounds weird. Also when I touch a chord the air after the 12th fret of that string (which should be 1 octave higher), the highest note is slightly out of tune (sharp). is this a problem with the strings or guitar?

The guitar tone is off, nothing to do with the strings, take it to your local musical instrument / repair shop, and ask them to set it up for you, and to set the intonation.
