Ok I was looking at scores of a Van Halen song, and I can not figure out what scale of these notes are of the soloist. Strike (chain G) 12-14-16-19. Can anyone tell me what scale it is?

u need to no more than just 4 notes to determine which scale is. You'll have to look at the chords played during the solo and the rest of the soloist. But if you just determined that of the 4 grades, more likely is that the scale would be G major. This is because 12-14-16-19 g chain is GAB D. and the G major scale is GABCDEF # g. However, I could be wrong because, as I said before, what you need know more than four notes. This scale could also be G Mixolydian, C Major, D Major, Lydia G, D Dorian ... maybe even a Aeolian (A natural minor) Locrian perhaps B ... etc. so look in other parts of the song also. Most likely, your G Major.
